Butterfly!

Jar found a caterpillar several weeks ago.  We've been watching it get all fattened up to prepare for the making of  the cocoon.  Nine days ago it made it's cocoon, amazing how this little creature goes through this process.  We watched and we waited for the cocoon to go from this interesting green color with a type of  gold stitching around the top, to the cocoon becoming almost  transparent so that you can actually see the monarch butterfly inside the cocoon.  When this happens you know that it's time.  The butterfly starts to quiver inside the cocoon until it shakes itself free.  AMAZING!!!  The butterfly then needs some time to kinda wake up.  Once awake, Jar then decides to let the butterfly go free.  He has gone through this process several times before, but this time the butterfly gracefully fell down to the patio, instead of taking off into flight right away.  Jar ran down to find her but thankfully she was o.k. and flew off .  When Jar returned to the house he was crying, very, very, sad little boy..  Then Dad told Jar that he did a great job raising the butterfly and it was time for her to go out on her own,  just like you do when you have kids.  Just like our Island Girl, she is our Island Butterfly!!  Sometimes as a parent we're not ready to let our butterflies go, but the butterflies want to spread their wings and fly!!   Jar stopped crying after this conversation, but this conversation got Dad all choked up;)  Until next time....
